Have you ever heard of it?
Even if you haven't I would be willing to bet you have gone through it!
Here is the Diet Cycle (let me know if this sounds familiar ;)
You are starting a new diet, this is going to be the one! You are pumped! You are excited! You are motivated because this time will be the time that you finally get it together, that you finally lose X pounds, that you finally kick your sugar addiction! You have your workouts scheduled, your meals planned, your family is on board to support you! Yup, you've got this and you are going to kill it!
Fast forward to days 10-14 (or maybe even just day 7 or 8). You have been doing well at the gym, you've been going on your runs or doing your fitness videos. You are LOVING it....ok well sort of enjoying it, but you say you LOVE it because that is how you are suppose to feel right? Right? But you are starting to feel tired, your energy is down maybe you are even feeling a little bit irritable? You begin to ask yourself, “I thought working out was supposed to make me feel better, was supposed to help relieve my stress and make me less crabby?” Well, you are right, but there is one HUGE thing we all overlook when we embark on these diets! We will get to that soon, first we must finish our Diet Cycle.
You continue on your journey, only to start having cravings for the things you shouldn’t be eating. These cravings won't go away. It doesn't make sense because you are following your meal plan! It's doesn't seem fair because other people do it so easily! But the cravings just won't go away. So, you say to yourself, “I’m tired, I’ve done good so far, I deserve this treat, I can have my one day to cheat.”
Sure, its ok to cheat every once in a while. We have all done it, and frankly enjoying these treats is a part of life. But when we are on the Diet Cycle, we all know too well that this treat, or the next one eventually derails us and 3 cheat days later we feel terrible, guilty, frustrated, disappointed! And we can't figure out why this time wasn't the time. You were ready, you were motivated, you put all the right pieces in place...or at least you think you did.
Remember earlier I said there was HUGE piece we all overlook. What we are overlooking is nutrients! You are tired, irritable, crabby, hungry and having cravings because you are nutrient deficient!
