I am not great with words (anyone who reads my posts may have noticed already ;) I don't know what it is but I have a really hard time saying (or writing) exactly what I want to say, and often I say (or write) way too much. Here is my best attempt to describe what I do as a coach and why I love it so much!
If you ask most people who follow me on Facebook (or my husband), they would say I would post a lot of selfies. Well that is true, but the point of the selfies is to show what living a life a good health and fitness is like. Other than posting selfies, I also run challenge groups. The theme or type of challenge group really varies, but overall the idea is helping people work on their own health and fitness goals. I post information, tips, advice or articles in the morning and in the evening I do check in's with each group and the members comment on how their day went, what went well and what they could use some help with. My favorite part about the groups is the community aspect to it. I am not always the one to reply first when someone asks for help. The groups are full of people on similar journeys and the best part (in my opinion) is that everyone in the group is always willing to help each other out!
I also talk with a lot of people behind the scenes. That my be checking in 1-1 with current or past challengers, answering questions for a potential challenger or just sharing what I do.
Not only do I work with challengers but every coach has a team of coaches they work with and my team is an amazing group of women. We have team calls every Monday night and we are constantly working together in our Facebook group to help each other out!
I also read a lot of personal development books, watch videos or listen to podcasts. I go above and beyond in this area because I have fallen in love with personal development! Not only am I learning how to get better at running my business but I learn so much about how to help and really reach people!
Did I always know I wanted to coach?
Nope, not at all. In fact at first I never thought I would become a coach. When I first learned about the coaching opportunity with Beachbody, I thought, “I can’t do that” and immediately put up those walls. But, something inside me was a little curious, so I joined a sneak peak to learn about what it actually meant to be a coach.
When I first started I had no idea what I was doing. I didn’t take selfies, I very rarely posted on Facebook, I had no idea how to inspire people to join me nor did I think I was knowledgeable enough to be a coach. I had no background in health and fitness beyond my own research using Google; who was I to tell people how to work on their health goals?
Honestly, I was most worried about what other people would think of me. But after a few weeks of working with my team, but not actively coaching, they helped me see that it doesn’t matter what others think of me. I wanted to get healthy (what’s so bad about that) and by posting about it online I would hopefully help others get healthy too (again, what’s so bad about that).
When I first thought about becoming a Beachbody coach I had no idea if coaching really was for me. But what I did know was that I was, at the time, very unhappy with my job, but I couldn’t quit without having something else to replace it. But how do you find a new job with equitable pay and benefits while working a full time (often more) job. Also I wasn’t sure I wanted to leave education, I just knew I wasn’t happy where I was at.
Coaching offered me a chance to try out something new, risk free. I was already signed up as a discount coach, so I didn’t even have to invest a single penny to start coaching, nor did I have to invest any money to actively coach, but I could make a little money as I kept doing what I was already doing, working out with the Beachbody programs and drinking Shakeology. Also this was something I could do without quitting my full time job.
What I love about coaching
What don't I love about coaching! There are so many things I never expected coaching to do for me, I don't even think I will be able to truly convey how happy I am with my decision to give coaching a shot!
Since I started coaching I have learned SO MUCH about nutrition and fitness, about how to take care of myself and my family, how to help and inspire others to do the same.
I have met so many amazing people along the way! Challengers, coaches, new friends. One part I was unhappy with in my full time job was how negative people seemed to be. Not in the Beachbody world. My challengers and fellow coaches are constantly so positive, even when set backs occur the attitude is of perseverance and positivity. I can't even describe how up-lifting it is to be around so many people who can see the silver lining and keep moving forward!
I get paid! Ok it may not be PC to talk about money, but lets be real, this is a business! I didn't become a coach for the extra weekly paychecks. I became a coach for the opportunity to turn this into a thriving business that 1) helps others with the same struggles I have had, and 2) helps me live my life by my design. I don't want to be tied to a full time job that controls my schedule and my life. I want to be in control of those things and coaching offers me that opportunity.
No matter how long I continue coaching, and not matter hoe far I take this business, it's a decision I am forever grateful I made. I am so happy I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and tried something I normally wouldn't have tried. Coaching had helped me get closer to the person I want to be. I never expected coaching to do that for me, but then again coaching continues to surprise me in the best of ways.
Is it for you?
Are you curious if coaching may be a good fit for you? My team runs monthly coaching sneak peaks that are obligation free! The sneak peaks last 5 days and they give more information into what the business is! There is no risk in joining a sneak peak so why not? I didn't think I could do this and now I am so happy that I decided to take a look in a sneak peak!
